Some boards allow for BIOS flashback
without a CPU but that is basically it. AFAIK this board does not support flashback.

I am observing the same experience as yours. Blue light fading. I bought the motherboard online second hand. Now before I order CPU, I am seeing the same results as yours. This blue light fading. Not sure if I should buy CPU or if my motherboard is fine.

Do you remember if your motherboard did showed any signs of life without CPU?

See Picture of the Blue Glowing Light - https://snipboard.io/DjH7yd.jpg

    Author: jmibk
Subject: 10198
Posted: 17 Nov 2018 at 3:04am

I bought a new X299 Taichi XE Board and tried to power on to check the volume of all vans, but nothing happened.

PSU is an EVGA 1000 GQ, 80+ GOLD 1000W, connected to the 28pin power connector and the 2 small 8 pin cpu power connectors.
There is no cpu, no ram and no m2 storage installed - only the board and the psu (and fans). If i connect the 2 power pins of the system header (with screwdriver or the button), nothing happens.

The only life sign is that blue fading led thing under the x299 heatsink. I pressed the flash button on the rear for 3 secs (without usb connected) to check any life, it started to flash and stayed on after a few seconds (because the missing usb). Installing RAM changed nothing.

I have no CPU to test. I remembered in the early 2010 jears, a Mobo started up with only the board and psu connected together (also without the cpu power). Is it the same today or must there be a cpu installed to turn on the PSU and power on the Mobo?
