Author: Shbek1
Subject: 10443
Posted: 19 Dec 2018 at 8:02am

Hi! I just did a new build that is giving me some trouble. Yesterday I got it all set up, and it ran beautifully.

Specs are:

i9 9900K
64GB G.Skill Ripjaws (on the approved list: F4-3200C16Q-64GVK)
ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate
512GB Samsung 970 Pro (via an M.2 to PCIE adapter)
Around 40TB in various surveillance and NAS HDDS
EVGA 650 P2

This build is a 'server' that primarily runs Blue Iris and Plex, two programs heavily reliant on Intel's QuickSync, so no dedicated GPU.

When I woke up this morning, it was off. Weird. I started it, and was immediately greeted with a BSOD boot loop.
First thing I tried was booting from my install USB, it would also immediately give me a BSOD.

Errors include:
IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL
UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP
SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED
SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION

Sounds like a RAM issue, right?

In preparation I:
Removed all SATAS.
Removed the 970 Pro
Removed all wires except the two powering the motherboard
Double checked the aforementioned motherboard cables
Removed power and the CMOS battery for about an hour

Then I went about checking the RAM:
- Tried all sticks individually in all slots
- Tried dual channel combinations
- Tried RAM in another system (tested fine with memtest)
- Tried known working RAM from two other systems
- Reset the BIOS with each change

Testing RAM just borked it up even more. At this point, I can't even get to BIOS. It's just giving me an Error 55, which apparently means "RAM not installed". I even pulled the CPU, no bent pins or anything like that. Reinstalled the heatsink, no dice. The PSU is relatively new, and was working well in the previous system.

Any additional ideas?
