Oh my, this is embarrassing. When I went to swap the M.2 to the second slot to test things, I noticed that it seemed to sit more snug in the slot than it was in the original. Recognizing I might have found the problem, I removed the drive and reseated in the original slot.

It lives!

I have seen many installation videos for M.2 drives but never done it myself, and the orientation of my custom case hanging on the wall, makes it a pain to take down off the wall so my reference for installation was different compared to what you see in most videos.

Now I know...M.2 drives need to be firmly seated in the slot!

I just tried clearing the CMOS and nothing appears to happen... was it supposed to clear all of the BIOS settings as well? (my RAM still shows the 3200MHz XMP profile as active)

I'm tempted to just take it back to the store and get a SATA M.2. I did not try clearing the CMOS. Would the other M.2 slot work even if the drive is NVMe? Well, it should have been picked up by the system. That much is for sure.

Did you try clearing CMOS? Updated to the latest BIOS (5.40) and my m.2 NVMe SSD is not recognized. It was not recognized on the old BIOS version either.

I have another SSD in SATA port 1 but from reading the manual that shouldn't be a problem.

The new drive is not recognized in Windows or the UEFI tool

The new drive is a Crucial P1 NVMe PCIe 2280 Gen3 x4 SSD.

It's installed in M2_1 (the extreme slot)

Ryzen 5 1600
16GB 3200Mhz RAM
GTX 1060 6GB

x370 Pro4 mobo
