Author: techrider
Subject: 113300
Posted: 09 Dec 2025 at 8:51pm

Great news, I got it working. I'm not 100% sure what happened but this is my theory. I probably installed a little too much of my old Arctic Silver II when I installed the proc. I think it leaked over and allowed a couple of the pins to conduct to each other.

I pulled the proc before I posted and cleaned it up but it didn't work. The brush I used was a little too stiff and I think I bent a couple pins. Thankfully they didn't break off.

I decided to upgrade my 1600X system so I put that processor in place of the 5500 and the system started right up. I took a soft toothbrush and a bunch of isopropyl alcohol and really cleaned the pins. I inspected the pins to make sure there wasn't a hint of silver between them. Put the proc back in and it started right up.

Thanks for the help!

It sounds to me like the
PSU has failed/degraded. If it were another component like the board or CPU etc
then the PSU should still power off with a long hold of the power button. At least
that has been my experience.

I removed ram/video card/ etc. I got down to just bare bones and it's all the same. Hit the power button, the fans come on and run, the ethernet light will flash but then nothing else happens. After holding the power button, the system will not power off either, I have to use the power supply switch to get it to shut off.

I hooked up a PC speaker to the speaker connection hoping for some beep codes and it never makes a sound.

Thoughts?

Your best bet would be to take your
system in to a tech store/specialist and have them update the BIOS for you. Otherwise
you will need a CPU that is supported by version 7.0 to perform the update safely.
