Author: damonlynch
Subject: 11747
Posted: 27 Jun 2019 at 3:44am

I recently purchased a used X470 Taichi from Amazon with the expectation of putting in a Ryzen 3000 CPU in it next month. Until then the system has a Ryzen 3 1200 installed.

Soon after getting the motherboard I updated its firmware to 3.40 in anticipation of the immanent CPU upgrade. Nothing is overclocked. The system is running Windows 10 1903 with the latest AMD chipset drivers.

The IO panel (i.e. rear panel) USB ports are not working properly. Symptoms include:

Upon access an externally powered hard drive, Windows has problems listing folder contents or fails to copy files

Plugging in a device onto a powered USB hub to be charged results in other USB devices plugged into the IO panel (not on the hub) being power cycled, and other devices on the hub stopping working.

However, not all devices are problematic. For example the USB keyboard is fine.

All the USB devices in question are working find on other computers, so I am sure the problem is with the motherboard. The front panel IO appears to be working normally.

I assume the motherboard was returned to Amazon by the previous owner because of the IO panel USB problem. But if anyone has any insights as to what might also be causing the problem, please let me know. Thanks!
