It doesn't mean the RAM is bad, just possibly
incompatible.

Try hooking up a PC speaker to the speaker header on the board, it should help troubleshoot.

Also I don't have any ram other than my 8 sticks of 3200Mhz DDR4. So I don't know how else to test the RAM if over 50% of my sticks are bad. I find that scenario unlikely though.

I have found with Threadripper the most common issue tends
to be CPU installation. Find a good tutorial on youtube and make sure it's
properly installed before troubleshooting anything else. If you still are not
getting POST then pull power from the PSU and clear CMOS, remove the battery for
about 10mins while you are at it to be sure it clears fully. When my system
didn't POST (out of the box) this is what I did and it got me up and running.

If you still get no POST after all this, try some different RAM. There is a PC
speaker header on the board just above the front panel header (page 24 of the
user manual). The PC speaker connects to the 5v and speaker pins. You can pick
up a PC speaker from any number of places and they typically come with a 4 pin
connector with only the outermost pins connected to the speaker.

Its a great board and I have had no issues with mine. It can just be a bit tricky
troubleshooting without a debug display.

Edited by Xaltar - 09 Dec 2019 at 1:58am

    Author: TheEggSample
Subject: 13077
Posted: 09 Dec 2019 at 1:15am

Hey everyone. I recently picked up a few parts to update my system. I've put everything together, but am not getting any monitor output on boot.

Here are my parts:

CPU - Threadripper 1920x
MOBO - ASROCK x399 Phantom Gaming 6
RAM - 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200Mhz DDR4

Previous computer's parts:
GPU - VEGA 64
PSU - Rosewill Give Series 1000w
Monitor (the one I'm trying to get the bios to come up on) - old HP something 1920 x 1200

Things I've tried:

??Trying to boot with 2, 4, and 8 sticks in their correct spots. Leads me to believe the RAM isn't the issue.
??Allowed the first boot process 10+ mins (I heard that it can take a long time sometimes).
??Tried using my 2k monitor instead of my HP 1200p
??Tried multiple HDMI cables
??Took CPU out and examined MOBO pins... Look ok to me.

How do you guys troubleshoot this motherboard? It doesn't come with a POST speaker, and it doesn't have any debug LEDs. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that all of my old PC parts I listed were literally working fine one day ago. I'm super confused and am unsure if I've missed something or if I got a bad CPU or Motherboard. Do you guys have any tips on troubleshooting?
