I did this exact thing a couple of years ago on my Z77 Extreme6. Migrating away from WHS 2012.

IIRC, you might need to disable your onboard NIC in the BIOS. I then used an HP NC110T, which, again IIRC, WS2012ER2 had drivers for on the OS disc.

If in the end you need some hacked drivers, let me know. I've become rather adept.
