Author: ThreeDee
Subject: 13544
Posted: 07 Apr 2021 at 8:18pm

I run the X470D4U with a 3700x .. I bought 2 x 16GB Nemix 3200 ECC UDIMM's for it. The setup did not post

I tried just one stick in A1 .. and it posted .. I tried the other stick by itself and it would not post no matter what slot

I did an RMA request and ordered 2 more 16GB sticks of a different brand, slower speed and low profile .. while waiting for these to arrive, I installed TrueNAS on a 32GB m.2 drive ..and updated the BIOS and BMC via IPMI to 3.50 and 2.20..

On a whim, I tried the "dead" Nemix stick afterwards .. and it automagically was working now.

My new ECC RAM arrived and I added it to the Nemix stuff and it's all working at 2666 ..all 64GB of it.

maybe the BIOS update did it .. don't know .. I seated and reseated that "dead" stick to no avail prior to the BIOS update ..

Sooo .. just food for thought .. I don't have the 10GB nics, but the rest is basically the same.

It now works as expected with the samsung ram.

No boot, no post, no dr debug, just the heartbeat led, power led and ipmi lan led. IPMI works except it always reports as off even when it is started and the fans are spinning.

I have another of these boards that has a 3600 for cpu instead and that seems to work just fine with the same ram.

Also strange that it does not even report no ram when there are no sticks installed.

Did you find out how to get it working£ For cpu I use 3900X, and I used IPMI to try to update BMC to the newest version (3.40 at time of writing).

There is a sticker on the board that says the BIOS version is 3.20 so I assume it should be supported.

I have 2 sticks of Samsung 32GB ECC memory and have tried various bank configuration. What am I missing?

I even tried with NO memory, looking for an audible beep to indicate it failed to POST. No luck...

Stock CPU cooler and IPMI is loading up but nothing displayed when I KVM into it.

I am at a loss and feel like the board is going to need to be RMA'ed :-(

Any thoughts?
