It doesn't make any difference if the Intel Driver DVD disc is in the tray or not.

After a while, the front panel light shows HDD disk reads, but I disconnected the hard drive's power and data cables to simplify troubleshooting. There's nothing on the hard drive anyway. The O/S is on the M.2 SSD.

I do not get any output on the monitor, whether it's connected to the motherboard's DVI port, or the graphics' card DVI port.

I tried pressing F2 just after power on, to run the UEFI Setup Utility. I get no indication that was successful.

At some point, it gets into a repeating cycle: read the DVD drive and after awhile, read the hard disk.

What's my next step?
Thanks,

Author: Needsleep2
Subject: 14044
Posted: 09 Apr 2020 at 3:13am

ASRock z270 Killer SLI motherboard
New install.
I need you to check my thinking and help me figure out what is stopping my system from booting.

My z170 m'board needed replacement, so I bought a z270. I moved all z170 components over:
ram, graphics card, cooler, processor (Intel i7-6700K), M.2 SSD
Some, none, or all of these could need to be replaced. The PSU blew
on the old system and took the m'board with it.

On first boot, I see red pulsing lights on the m'board, and the DVD Writer access light flashes for a few seconds. And that's about it.

On new m'board, UEFI is not yet installed. So it's the BIOS that is querying devices, and that why the DVD Writer is momentarily accessed.

If the operating system was absent, the BIOS would run and then everything would stop, right?

Now on my old z170, the operating system (O/S) was on the M.2 SSD and there was no HDD. This system had UEFI installed. And UEFI is needed to acquire an O/S from an SSD, as I understand it. UEFI is not yet installed on this system.

The BIOS must have a search order for finding the O/S. The first place it looks is the DVD Writer. I assume the ASRock boards are shipped with this as default. So I placed the ASRock CD ISO that installs UEFI on the system once the CD is accessed by the BIOS while looking for an O/S, into the DVD Writer tray and rebooted. But I get no further access on the DVD Writer once the first flashes occur.

When the BIOS runs on my other older system, I see some text output on my monitor. On this machine, there is no monitor signal. And I have tried all manner of attempts to correct this.

Both my CPU and my graphics card can send a video signal, and neither seems to be doing so. I find it unlikely that both devices would fail simultaneously. Something else must be wrong.

Can you help me get my system up and running?
Thanks.
