Author: shakey1961
Subject: 14308
Posted: 07 May 2020 at 8:16pm

Hi everyone. My first post here after installing my first ASRock Phantom Gaming X motherboard yesterday.

I have a Ryzen 5 3600 chip with 16Gb (2x8gb) of Corsair DDR4 Vengence LPX 3200mhz memory and a 500Gb Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe drive running the latest version of Windows 10.

For personal reasons, I have another 5 hard drives, 3 HDD's and 2 SSD's. One SSD used to run Windows 10 on my previous board, an MSI A88x Assasins Creed MB.

I also have a switching unit (push-button power switches, made by Kingwin) which enables me to turn on a hard drive as and when required, as I would prefer to only run the HDDs when I need them. They don't need to be running all the time.

My problem is this... On the previous MSI board while my computer was running, when I powered up a drive, it would be recognised and Windows Explorer would show me its contents. This new Phantom MB doesn't appear to do that. Power up a Hard Drive and nothing. However, if I switch on the power to the hard drive(s) I need before starting the computer they show up.

When plugging in a USB drive, the new motherboard recognises it and opens the window to display the files. I would like it to do the same when I power up an HDD.

Is this the "new" way of doing things with new CPUs and memory etc, or is there a way around it? Bios update?

While it's inconvenient and a faff, it's something I'll have to learn to live with if it can't be corrected.

Any ideas people?

Many thanks in anticipation of your help and replies.

Jonathan
