Author: DonYenko
Subject: 14356
Posted: 12 May 2020 at 3:45pm

Hi all,

since I purchased the M2 NVMe SSD last year, I am having issues with cold booting and sometimes even rebooting the system. Have in mind that this is not a Windows booting issue, this is "MBO refuses to recognize NVMe unless CMOS is cleared and settings reloaded"!

Here are the (important) specs:

ASRock AB350 Pro4 (BIOS 6.30)

AMD Ryzen 3600 (Cryorig H7 with uprated fan)

Sapphire Nitro+ RX590 SE

2x Patriot Viper RGB 3000MHz 8GB PVR416G300C5KW (Micron H-die)

ADATA ASX8200NP-240GT-C M2 NVMe SSD (installed in Ultra M2 slot)

Seagate Barracuda Guardian 2TB 7200RPM ST2000DM008-2FR102

Fortron Raider II 750W 80S

Behavior is as follows: In 9 out of 10 cases, booting stops at "ASRock" logo and it shows A0 code (IDE initialization). Rebooting the system does not help. Unplugging the system for a while does not help. Interestingly, clearing the CMOS does help and when the system finally boots into Windows, it works flawlessly (no drive errors, no subpar drive performance, no BSODs, no hickups)... until system is turned off (almost every time) or rebooted (sometimes).

I have already tried:

Boot the PC with only 1 stick of RAM and without other drives

Set CSM to disabled and enable UEFI only mode

Disable Deep Sleep (and FastBoot) in BIOS

Reseat the CPU, reseat the GPU, reseat the NVMe drive

Check the power-connectors

At first, I thought it was a faulty NVMe drive, but it booted in other PCs every single time in any scenario. It is very simple - I do not want to reset the CMOS before or during every single startup of my PC. Any suggestions?
