RAM not seating properly has been
something to look out for since RAM slots were invented, I remember spending a
week trying to troubleshoot a 386 server with intermittent and very random stability
issues,
turned out to be one of the 8 SIMMs which wasn't seated properly.

Enjoy the new build

I swapped the single stick in A2 with another and got a POST.

Moved that problematic stick to B2, and it posted.

But the other two sticks in and posted again.

I think I had reseated that RAM in A2 when I pulled all the others, but I?™m not sure. Perhaps just a bad initial seating.

Apologies for B540M instead of B450M and for the way the smart apostrophes did something horrible to the bbcode output.

I don?t need a video card.

BIOS sticker on the motherboard shows 3.90, and the 3200G has been supported since 3.30, so that should be fine.

I originally had all four DIMM slots populated. I have tried with just a single stick in A2. Same result:

CPU fan spins up and runs for about 30 seconds. No video. Then, it?s as if there is a reset, CPU fan power stops. About 4 seconds after that, the cycle starts again.

I?m using the HDMI video on the motherboard. The only other peripherals right now are an NVME M2 and a SATA one.

I do not have another CPU to try.

Memory may be the issue, but Asrock?s support page for that motherboard has no memory lookup for Picasso, though it does show supported speeds.

RAM is A 16G Crucial from a 32G two stick pack: BL2K16G26C16U4B.

I?ll buy a single stick to see if it is RAM, but I?d sure like to know what official RAM recommendations are for Picasso before I do that b

I?d appreciate any other suggestions.

Edited by Xaltar - 20 Jun 2020 at 11:49am
