Author: camokid95
Subject: 16772
Posted: 07 Oct 2020 at 11:11am

I have recently built my PC using the ASROCK B460 Steel Legend motherboard.
My current question involves installing the 8GB x 2 (16GB) RAM in the correct slots and making sure they're all operating correctly for Dual & Quad Channel configuration.

According to my motherboard's manual it shows A2 and B2 slots should be Populated for Dual Memory Channel configuration. It also states if I only have one RAM stick I should use either of these two slots.

[1] I have not been able to get A2 or B2 slots to work with two sticks or a single stick in either of the two slots. The PC will not Display (boot up) if I attempt to do this.

[2] If I install one or two modules into A1 and/or B1, it works fine, and I can boot up completely; it shows "16GB with 256MB Shared Memory Cache" and "Dual Memory" in the BIOS.

So with those two points being stated, I am wondering if I need to return my motherboard because two of the four RAM slots are broken, or if it's simply just a feature. I need reassurances that when I install two more sticks in the future, I won't run into any hardware issues.

Computer's Hardware Specs:
CPU - Intel i7-10700
Mobo - AsRock B460 Steel Legend
RAM - G. Skill Ripjaws 3200mhz 8GB x 2 (16GB) CAS16
PSU - Corsair TXM650 Semi-Modular

Photos of Issue:
