What (looks like) helped was changing SATA port to which the hard drive was connected to. I just did it and I rebooted
PC 15 times and each time it booted nicely, so I'm assuming it's fixed. Will let you know if that didn't actually fix the issue.

Thank you all for comments.

    Author: Xaltar
Subject: 16820
Posted: 08 Oct 2020 at 4:05pm

Not detecting reliably at boot seems fairly common with that model SSD, particularly
after a few months of use. Looking at some user reviews on various sites I found
quite a few people complaining of similar symptoms. It seems the drives can be
problematic and sometimes picky about the SATA controller. One user reported the
drive seemed fine on their intel system but did not detect on their AMD (upgrade)
system.

People seem to have the notion that SSDs are more reliable and fail less often
than mechanical drives, sadly, this isn't always true. A good SSD can by far outlast
a spinning disk but they are just as prone to bad batches, manufacturing defects
and other issues as any piece of hardware.

If you can, I would test with another SSD and see if it has the same issue. I
suspect it won't. If you still have the original system it came from, you can
test the Crucial SSD in that again.

Edited by Xaltar - 08 Oct 2020 at 4:06pm

    Author: mario
Subject: 16820
Posted: 08 Oct 2020 at 5:01am

Hi,

My first post, so hello!

My spec is:
ASRock AMD B450 Pro4 Ryzen
Crucial MX100 256GB SATA III 6GB/s Solid State Drive SSD (+ some other drives)
Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3000 MHz Memory Kit 2x 16GB
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Processor (4C/8T, 18 MB Cache, 3.9 GHz Max Boost)

The problem is that sometimes the motherboard does not see the bootable drive. Sometimes, it just says that no bootable drive found, please insert on or reboot. And sometimes it goes to BIOS. Sometimes it starts ok, and it can run for hours and does not crash or anything - so a broken cable can be eliminated. SSD drive was working with the previous system without any issues so hard drive can be eliminated.

Now, when it goes to BIOS, I can see that the MOBO see the drive as per:

But in the security tab the Crucial SSD is missing:

And it says that it is disabled in BBS

If I just reboot, all is working fine.

BIOS restored to defaults already. Does anyone has any other ideas or is it time to send it back to the manufacturer?
