Author: kerberos_20
Subject: 17843
Posted: 19 Jan 2021 at 9:15pm

hi, i havent been on those forums for a while, recently i got tempted to update my BIOS, ive been using for a while now P5.20 version on X370 gaming x, as i still have R5 1600x....
well back then that was last compatible bios i guess for this CPU, but anyway i decided to update it :-)
went from 5.20 -> 5.40 -> 5.50 -> 5.60 -> 5.90 -> 6.00
and in between updates i was checking if was was still working or not
well i really like new graphics on eufi settings tought ill get some no background things (small bios room space), but it actually looks better

soo im really suprised that i have PLL settings, FSB overclock (well not really, but 98.9MHZ is no more , can go atleast 100MHz)

so far so good with first gen CPU, much better ram compatibility (with crazy sub timings lol, but aleast mobo boots without mem errors with xmp)

there is just one odd thing (issue), which started happening from P5.40,
if i enable above 4G (for 64bit device mapping), windows doesnt boot, it gets stuck on spinning dots, when i edit windows boot stuffs to see what it does, its says "preparing devices xx%", percentage goes really really slow and almost at end it throws BSOD with pnp driver watchdog
so i went safe mode, checked drivers/etc to use just microsoft drivers for boot, which allowed me to boot, but no SATA devices accessible, only nvme was working, when i managed to make SATA drives accesible, windows couldnt mount them, while PC pretty much semi freezed due to 100% drive usage on SATA devices

disabling above 4G makes SATA works again

x370 fatal1ty gaming x, bios P5.40 up to P6.00
ryzen 5 1600x
