It would appear enabling Serial Console Redirection in the BIOS affected this. It was also the reason why navigating the BIOS was painfully slow. As soon as I disabled Serial Console Redirection I was able to boot with the Intel card.

It could be possible that the RAM support for one of the
kits is marginal and the X710 cards are throwing it for a loop.

    Author: UntestedEngineer
Subject: 18135
Posted: 15 Feb 2021 at 9:46am

I bought a few Intel X710-DA2 off of amazon for DAC capability and I can only get the card to work in one of my server motherboards.

I have:

(2) EPYCD8-2T with a single EPYC 7402P each

(1) EPYC3251D4I-2T

No matter what card I try in one of the EPYCD8-2T the BIOS ends up kernel panicking upon boot and constantly restarts. The cards have no issues in the EPYC3251D4I-2T and the other EPYCD8-2T motherboard. BMC does see the Intel card in the System Information.

The second EPYCD8-2T works no issues with the Intel X710-DA2. I can take the same exact Intel card and move it between both servers in the same exact PCIE slot between the two and one works and one does not. Both servers have the exact same specs, the only difference is memory manufacturer but both are on the QVL.

One server uses 8x of CT32G4RFD432A.36FE2

One server uses 8x of KSM32RD4/32MEI

The server with the Crucial memory does not work while the one with Kingston does work. The BIOS attempts to post but just seems to panic and gets into an endless reboot cycle. As soon as I remove the card the server boots with no issues.

Exact same processor, power supply and hard drives. I even tried matching the BIOS configurations between the two. Both servers run the exact same BIOS, BMC and Microcode. I even updated the firmware on the Intel card to the most recent.

One EPYCD8-2T was manufactured in September 2019 and the other in August 2020. The September 2019 one has the issue while the August 2020 one does not.
