At least you can upgrade to 8gb later on down the line by adding another 4gb module of the same model and brand, keep the 2gb module handy for troubleshooting other systems or to trade with a friend for something you need Wink

It is always handy to have some spare RAM laying about.

My idea was to buy 2Gb to add to the existence 2Gb.

They didn't have 2gb (16?? so I bought 4gb (21??.

Because it doesn't recognize the 2+4 I'm only using the 4gb.

In the end I've got the 4 instead of the 2+2 and I've paid more 5??

If I go to the store and return it I'll pay more than that in gasoline! LOL

It's okay as it is. :)

Any "guy in the store' will most times say just about anything to make a sale.

If it's within your budget, knowing you're looking to increase the RAM, I'd go back to the SAME store you bought that 4GB stick from, inquire of their return policy, and if you can leave with buying another of the SAME 4GB sticks, buy one.

Go home, remove the old 2GB stick replacing it with this newly bought 4GB stick. You may need tto clear the BIOS before the new second 4GB is recognized.

BUT, the two 4GB sticks should appear IDENTICAL.

If you have problems, post back and we'll see what is at issue and hopefully get you running.

I've bought the same brand in order to be compatible... And because the guy in the store told me that there was no problem I've bought 4 Gb (they didn't have 2 Gb).

Unfortunately, no. Mixing RAM will behave exactly like this if the two sticks are incompatible with each other.

Hi,

I've a Q1900-ITX working fine with a 2Gb RAM (KVR13S9S6/2).

Now I've bought more 4Gb (KVR13S9S8/4).

With the two RAM inserted the computer only loops with "preparing automatic repair"!

If I use the RAM separately (only one each time) it works fine with both of them.

If I use the two RAMs and enter the bios before the "preparing automatic repair" apparently they are recognized by the motherboard.


Is there any incompatibility because of the different sizes ?

Anyone knows any way to resolve this ?
