The QVL
for your board will only list a fraction of the RAM kits compatible with it. RAM
QVL lists tend to be more reliable. It makes sense, it's far easier to test a
handful of motherboards with each RAM model than it is to test one of each RAM model
on a handful of boards. There are just so many different RAM kits out there.

Edited by Xaltar - 25 May 2021 at 7:30pm

If the system is stable at 2133 then try enable
XMP and manually lower the frequency to 3000 and test again. If 3000 works try
3200 etc until you find where the system becomes unstable again.

If the system is still unstable even with XMP disabled entirely then the issue may
be more serious than incompatible RAM. Hopefully that is not the case however.

If the system is stable with XMP enabled with a lower frequency selected then
it's up to you to decide if you will just use it like this or replace the RAM
with something capable of running faster. IMO, 3000 should be more than adequate
to get the most out of your system when gaming etc. Faster RAM may net you a few
FPS here and there but not enough to be noticeable.

    Author: mrrobot
Subject: 18927
Posted: 24 May 2021 at 9:50pm

I purchased my gaming PC components last April and been facing random windows crashes and blue screen errors. At first it was occasional but now its more frequent. It is my first attempt into building my own PC.
PC info:
OS: Windows 10 Pro 21H1
MB: Asrock X570 Steel Legend WIFI AX BIOS: 3.31
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: Radeon RX6900XT
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C19D-16GVRB
PSU: Seasonic 850W Platinum
SSD: SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. X4

I realized my memory is not listed in the compatible (QVL) list so I tried to set the values manually using DRAM calculator and Thaiphoon but when I boot the system it immediately crashes on Windows. I have to step everything to default and then the system boots but then I would get the random crashes.
I tried updating BIOS to 3.7 (latest version) and again the system immediately crashes when windows open.
My question is do you think the crashes are caused by memory being incompatible? Can't it be solved by simply buying new (compatible) memory sticks?
Which BIOS version should I be using for perfect and stable system based on my components?
Any idea what should I be looking for based on the information given above for what is causing my random crashes and system instability?
Any help is highly appreciated.
