I suspect the cable is causing some type of dead short, that in turn causes the entire system to close. The PSU is designed to handle dead shorts to prevent damage. That explains why you need to remove the PSU from the AC mains so it can reset.

First step is to try a different USB-C cable.
Author: Bmars520
Subject: 19330
Posted: 31 Jul 2021 at 11:41am

I was trying to connect my phone to my computer using a USB C cable, but when I plugged the cable into the computer, the computer immediately shut down. There was nothing connected to the other end of the cable, just plugged it in. When the cable is in the slot the computer refuses to turn on at all. No power, nothing. As soon as I remove the cable everything returns to normal, the computer can be turned on as if nothing even happened. Tried it again to see if it was a fluke and nope. Did it again. Even after the USB C cable is removed you still need to completely disconnect the computer from any power, then plug it back in and turn it on. Does anyone know why this might happen, or how I could fix it?

My motherboard is a Taichi X399
