At the very least you would need:

CPU
RAM
Motherboard

In other words it makes no difference what you decide to go with, those 3 key components
will be needed regardless. The problem is Z97 uses DDR3, everything newer uses
DDR4 and now, intel's newly launched platform uses DDR5. I would stay clear of
the new intel 12th gen parts for the time being as it is a new platform and is
bound to be buggy for a while yet while the software catches up to the new architecture.

I guess the sticky I linked was not clear enough. People have successfully performed
clean installs of Windows 11 even on Z87 boards provided they have enabled PTT
and followed the steps in the sticky I linked above. You can try a clean install
of Win 11 on a separate drive and see if it works for you using the instructions

I doubt you'll get the old 4th gen cpu on W11. From my understanding W11 requires secure boot and that started with 6th Gen Intel cpus.

But I'll def keep following as I just built an 11th gen (11700-i7) and I'm having a hard time prepping it for W11. Can't disable the CSM in the bios.

with a fresh installation (not an upgrade which fails at the hardware check phase).
