Author: parsec
Subject: 201
Posted: 31 Oct 2015 at 11:55am

According to the specs, the X99 Extreme11 supports 4 way SLI and 4 way Crossfire, with all slots being electrically x16.

That is accomplished by the two PLX PEX 8747 chips on this board, since two of the i7 socket 2011 v3 HEDT processors have 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes, and one has 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes.

Without the Plex chips, 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes would be required for four video cards at x16. That also does not account for the PCIe 3.0 lanes used by the M.2 slots.

The M.2 slots don't seem to be affected by the number of video cards being used, unless the i7-5820K processor is used. The second M.2 slot is disabled if the i7-5820K processor is used.

M.2 SSDs can be PCIe or SATA , which share different resources. SATA M.2 SSDs will cause some SATA ports to be disabled.

All of the i7 socket 2011 v3 processors support up to 64GB of memory, regardless of how much the mother board supports. You'll need a Xeon E5 v3 processor if you want to use 128GB of memory.

Skylake processors are not compatible with Haswell processor boards, since Skylake does not use the FIVR on-CPU voltage regulators that Haswell and Haswell-E processors have. So a future Skyake-E processor will use a different socket and most likely a different chipset.

The only processor refresh possible given the current Intel architecture that could be used with a socket 2011 v3 board would be a Broadwell-E processor.
You're talking about a re-design of the X99 Extreme11.

A refurbished board means a board that may or may not have had problems according to the user, or was damaged after leaving the factory. It was sent back to the factory, and was found to actually be working fine or was easily repaired. The board is then repackaged and sold as a refurbished product.

Some of the changes you want to see would require a major design update. Additional connectors, a different network chip, etc, are not things that can be added to an existing board.

Who knows, the X99 platform is new and will be in use for several years, you might see an ASRock X99 board that is similar to your dreams.
