I thought about the second bios, may try that tonight, work has owned me for the last couple of days.
 
Since I forced the NIC update, anddid some Windows Tweaking, the desktop has been stable.  If I use Chrome instead of Edge or Explorer I also don't seem to have Issues with the failure to find the website I direct the browser too.
 
I also downloaded the ASRock desktop software.  It allows me to move around in the BIOS from windows without any issues, changing settings at will.  I am really thinking the UEFI itself is buggy as you mentioned.
 
Is there a way to step pass the UEFI and go directly to the old school BIOS screen?
 
Oh and an FYI for anybody else trying to kick the kinks out of a new mobo.  The ME update at I couldn't get to install from the Ap store?  It's older than the one that flashes in with the P1.60 BIOS, hence why it won't update.
 
Anyways, I'll try the second BIOS (Already reset the cmos,) tonight.

Can you navigate the BIOS after clearing the CMOS? How about using the backup BIOS? I have random freezing in the UEFI as well, it seems to be a common issue even when a system is 'stable'. I think if you click around on stuff too quickly it locks it up. yes P1.60 is the latest, I am curious if it has the same freeze bug fix as 1.5, my bios rev was 1.0 so I guess the board has been on the shelve for a while.
 
Noted about voltages, going to be a few hours before I can get home to try, however the freeze ups in BIOS seriously hinder me. Ram is 1.2 rated, but set to 1.25 currently, I'll disable the XMP profiles and set to  default.  It actually surprised me when it automatically set to XPD.  The more I think about it the more I am wondering about voltages in general, the CPU voltage seemed a tad low as well, but again, the BIOS freezes up when I start trying to make adjustments, and even if I get through to the save point, it goes back to default.
 
I'll see if I can manually set the voltages you suggested.

Which variant of the motherboard are you running? 1.60 sounds old to start with. I would run with default BIOS settings and make sure you update to the latest version. If you are running your ram with XMP profile, don't. If it's stable after that, you need to look into possibly manually raising VCCIO and VCCSA voltages to get rated speeds with XMP profile set. This was definitely the case in my build (Z170 Gaming K6).  Try just manually setting the voltages for those two values manually at their recommended setting, which should show to the left of 'auto' after setting XMP and rebooting. So basically set them manually to match the left side (not sure why this works but it did for me). In my case VCCIO is 1.10 and VCCSA is 1.15. Hopefully i'm making sense. 

Nevermind about the variant. I see that it is the Fatal1ty i7. 1.60 is the latest for that board. Try manually seeing the voltages though as I suggested.

Just built this.  Having random lockups, some I worked around.

ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 i7 mobo
BIOS P1.60
4 stick kit HyperX 32gb kit 22666
i5-6600k
Samsung 950Pro for a boot drive
EVGA GTX980
Win 10 Pro.


booted up and was surprised it immediately went to installing windows without any nudging on my part. all is fine, ram even auto set correctly.  To good to be true I think.  Yep  have this occasional lock up for no apparent reason.

First it was locking up trying to update the nic.  worked around that, then it started while installing software or surfing the net.  finally the Bios freezes up for no apparent reason while I am looking through the options.  hard lock,  power down to recover.

I am unable to load the ME driver update to 11.0.0.1172 also.  I am aware of the Z170 freeze bug but am hoping the BIOS update already accounted for that.

Considered the PSU but I swapped out, didn't help.

Could be missing something in UEFI, I just switched over from Gigabyte, so it is a tad foreign to me.
