These are quiet fans and they were at max speeds anyway on CPU, so they are still on full speed. but very quiet.

I contacted Cooler Master. Still no response. Hopefully they'll have an answer. but I'm sure they'll pass the buck themselves.

The board likely shares a power circuit between
the CPU fan header and whatever circuit is getting power from the hub. I have seen
this same issue when people accidentally connect a fan to both the motherboard and
a power lead from the PSU.

I would imagine you are correct about the SATA power cable feeding the hub extra
power to support multiple higher draw devices without taxing the board's USB power
circuitry.

So, maybe it needs power to use the extra devices if used.

I have nothing plugged into the USB ports. But the USB 3.0 cable is plugged into the motherboard.

This is very bizarre on how this USB hub can feedback to the CPU fan connector.

I decided to leave the power connected anyway, I originally assumed it was for the front panel connections/lights/whatever.

It is very odd it can affect the fan on the motherboard header though?

I'll have to track down the SATA power connector and see what it is actually doing.

Thanks for your help
