Talk about early adopters... how did you manage to even get one yet?

I know, there are always some way to do so, but these processors are not yet generally available. ASRock does not even have all the UEFI/BIOS updates posted yet for Broadwell-E type processors, HEDT or XEON.

On the other hand, there are but three Haswell-E HEDT models, and about 50 Xeon Haswell-E models. So supporting the Broadwell-E XEON line as soon as possible makes sense.

Intel sure does not make it easy for mother board manufactures, they just put these processors on the shelves, and it's the mother board manufactures that get to supply the UEFI/BIOS updates and deal with the users that don't have a Haswell-E processor to perform the necessary UEFI/BIOS update. Don't forget the ongoing support if the UEFI/BIOS update is not done correctly. If it all does not work, who's on the front line trying to deal with it? (some moderator in a mobo forum) Wink

This reminds me of the PCIe SSD and PCIe NVMe SSD situation. SSD manufactures release these products, and at least provide an NVMe driver (sometimes) for the SSD, but it's the mother board manufactures that must deal with the OS installation support and compatibility.

One thing I have noticed though is that the E5-2640v4 is not listed on the supported CPU list.

There is always a possibility that the list is out of date and supported on a newer bios, but it is a bit pot luck as to what bios is on your board at time of purchase.

E5-2640 v4 is a brand spanking new Broadwell-EP Xeon, BIOS Version 3.10 released on 25th March supports the new Broadwell-E/EP chips.

Not sure how you are going to get that BIOS flashed on to the board without some other CPU to use.

F4-2400C15Q-32GRR is listed on the Memory support list for the ASROCK X99 WS, the only difference between that and F4-2400C15Q-32GRK should be the colour, the final letter indicating Red or Black.

This is of little help of course , until you get some more RAM to play with.

Sadly all the manual states is that it is memory or CPU (memory controller) related. Could you post your full system specs please, including RAM brand and model number.

The most common cause for X99 based system memory issues is incompatibility. Many of the DDR4 kits available now were made recently with the socket 1151 platform in mind.

If the CMOS clear does not work you may have to try and find some budget RAM from the Memory Support List so you can perform a BIOS update. That may add support for the RAM you are using. If not then you may have to return the RAM and get a kit that is supported by the X99 platform.

Yes this is a new build and I got this error on the first power up. I've checked all of my connections. I'll try clearing the CMOS with the battery method when I get back to the machine. I take it this is a new build and the error occurred the first time you tried to power the system?

Make sure all your power connections are attached correctly.
Make sure the CPU 8 pin power connectors are correct (not PCIe power by accident)
Once you are sure everything is connected correctly disconnect the power from the wall then clear CMOS via the battery removal method.
