Author: Xaltar
Subject: 25817
Posted: 26 Apr 2023 at 1:59pm

I haven't seen anyone report it on any of ASRock's X670 boards but coil whine generally
isn't something specific to a particular product these days. On occasion a production
run may all have coil whine due to a batch of noisy components. It doesn't effect
performance or reliability so on occasion noisy components make it past QC, both
at the place of manufacture for the components and then later by the manufacturer
of the product that uses them.

Coil whine is annoying and fortunately ASRock has historically been very accomodating
when it comes to the issue. Many manufacturers do not consider it to be a defect
and won't allow for returns/RMA based solely on the noise. ASRock often will accept
an RMA, within reason.

You will want to look for reports of coil whine on the particular board models
you are looking at. x670 covers a lot of boards, each using different layouts
and components. Your question is too broad to give a definitive answer. Coil whine
is much more common on GPUs than motherboards. Higher performance, tight tolerance
chokes tend to be more prone to it given how they are made and usually only under
specific load conditions.
