I would shoot for a gold rated 80+ unit. Do
some research before buying, there is a lot of garbage out there unfortunately.
An 850w wouldn't hurt anything and would give you some headroom for future
upgrades though. Anything more than that is really overkill for most use cases.

Edited by Xaltar - 08 Jul 2023 at 5:04pm

Temp, watts, volts, ram use, ram temp, fane speeds, etc etc etc.... and you can have this Overlay visible during game play. They also have a recording feature in their Driver software that you can use to record your gameplay.

On several occasions, I've tried to record my game play, with that Overlay visible on the screen... Hoping to catch something when the system Reboots.

Unfortunately, every time its happened... the Video File ends up being not being properly saved and is corrupted and Intel says they can't do anything with it.

IF .. I had a way of recording the screen and ensuring the recording file didn't get corrupted during a spontaneous and unexpected reboot... without having to use my Cell Phone that can't record much more then 10 mins before it runs out of space :/ ...then I might be able to catch something in this ARC Overlay that might prove/disprove whether its the GPU.

I would be able to see if the GPU suddenly spikes in its power consumption...

But I don't know of any screen capture/recording software that WOULDN'T end up giving me corrupted save file after a sudden and unexpected reboot.

As for the PSU.

Do you think 750w IS enough, or if decide to buy a new one, should I go up to an 850w?
That said, I see
now you have an Arc GPU. There are still some teething issues with the drivers for
Arc, it could quite easily be behind your issues. Drivers tend to have optimizations
for specific games which makes it quite possible the 2 games that are crashing in
your configuration could simply lack or have bugged optimization in the drivers.

As for PSUs, I tend to replace mine every 5 years or so, or at least get them
recapped. 10 years is a great showing for a PSU but it has likely begun to degrade
(capacitors). It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it, maybe keep it as a backup
but it may not solve the issue if it's driver related.

As for the CPU power connenctors (8 and 4 pin), you only need to connect the 8pin.
The additional 4 pin is optional and only really needed in more extreme overclocking
scenarios.

IF, I were to buy a newer PSU...

Is 750w still enough?

Most all the PSU Calculators out there tell me the most I need is around 550 - 600... Except for the one on Newegg's website, which tells me I need 650 - 700, but I think thats just Newegg trying to sell you the idea that you should buy a more expensive PSU from them.

So either 750w isn't enough... or my current one is finally showing its age and my new Ryzen 7 7700x is beating it up harder then my old overclocked i5 4690k, that the 7700x replaced.

Should I have been using the 4 pin, or using both at the same time? There's no info in the manual that specified a difference between the two, nor anything that specified my CPU required any one over the other; or both.

So... is there a reason my current 750w PSU isn't enough for all that? Other then the fact that its getting old and reaching the end of its warranty lifespan?

Those particular games may be demanding more
from your system in a particular way that causes power protections to kick in and
restart the system. It could be causing the GPU to switch power states in a way
that results in a power dip or spike beyond normal tolerances. The BIOS update
may have made some changes/improvements to the power delivery to your PCIe slots
and given the impression of an improvement. If it's still happening however, it
could indicate a PSU issue.

If you have another PSU you can test with I would give that a go.
