The disk uses SED encryption, I didn't want to setup decryption so I didn't try accessing the data, but the system boots fine and disk size/model are correctly reported. So the disk seems to be fine, definitely shouldn't be preventing the motherboard from accessing the settings etc.

So I suspect it's either the motherboard or the PSU.

    Author: dmcyk
Subject: 26326
Posted: 19 Aug 2023 at 3:02pm

Hello,

I've been using my system with ASRock B550M Steel Legend without any problems for the last few months, but now suddenly it won't boot. The system serves as a home backup server, so I don't use it extensively. Just last week I made a backup, but today I noticed the system was down. Trying to start it the server didn't show up online, so I had to dig in a bit.

The system has a main boot NVMe SSD and 3x Crucial MX500 SSDs for storage. I was able to find that the system doesn't boot when any of the Crucial SSDs are connected. The ASRock logo appears briefly on boot but it quickly changes into a black screen and nothing else is happening. It's also not possible to enter BIOS settings, system is unresponsive.
With all 3 Crucial SSDs disconnected the system is able to boot and I can enter BIOS settings just fine. This way I was able to update the motherboard to the latest BIOS version, but that didn't help.
I also tried to connect the SSDs individually, but connecting any of them prevents the system from posting.
It seems rather unlikely that all 3 SSDs have somehow failed at the exact same moment, while the system was working fine last week. Plus the fact that I can't even enter BIOS settings while they're connected makes me think this could be a motherboard problem.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be a motherboard problem?

My setup is:
ASRock B550M Steel Legend
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G
Samsung 980 M.2 500 GB
3x Crucial MX500
Kingston 16GB ECC memory
Corsair RM750 PSU
