Author: jwalker93
Subject: 26401
Posted: 27 Aug 2023 at 10:54pm

I just put together a new PC with the following:
Z790 Pro RS Wifi (Bios v6.04)
i5-12600k w/ Deepcool AK620
G.Skill Trident Z5 32GB (2x16) (F5-6000J3636F16GX2-TZ5K)
Seasonic Focus GX-750
No GPU installed yet
Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Before I installed windows, I had ram in A2+B2, but it wouldn't post. Ended up using 1 stick to install windows. I think in A2. Tried different combo's after installing windows and it started working in A2+B2 w/ XMP.

Last night I unplugged the PSU and took the back panel off to zip tie some wires. Didn't touch anything on the mobo. Plugged it back in and it wouldn't post. Tried the following:
RAM 1 & 2 in A2+B2 - no post
RAM 1 in A2 - post
RAM 1 in B2 - no post
RAM 2 in A2 - post
RAM 2 in B2 - no post
RAM 2 in B1 - post
RAM 2 in A1 - post
RAM 1 in A1 - post
RAM 1 & 2 in A1+B1 - "System failed to boot several times" then post

The RAM sticks both work. I don't have another CPU to try, but I'm thinking the i5 is the problem. I checked the pins and none were bent. I reinstalled the AK620 in case I overtightened and it didn't change anything.

If anyone has an idea or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
