Author: Xaltar
Subject: 26983
Posted: 14 Nov 2023 at 10:53pm

Interesting question. Socket durability...

I have never had an LGA style socket die on me due to repeated installation/uninstallation
of CPUs before. AM5 is an LGA type socket, Land Grid Array. So long as you don't
physically damage the pins due to improper handling it should last a very long time.
If the CPU has been mounted under significant pressure for a prolonged period of
time you can let the board sit for 5 - 10 mins after removing it to allow the pins
to return to their original positions but even this isn't usually necessary.

I have been reviewing hardware for a long time, often using the same motherboard
to test dozens of CPUs in a short space of time for benchmarking etc and never
had an issue with sockets unless I was careless and bent pins, dropping things in
the socket etc.

I hope this answers your question.
