I sent my board in for RMA and then for the parts I bought an Asus board for my 5960x

Now I want to buy another CPU so I rather get the new intel ones. 

I currently do not have a CPU so I cant find which bios version I have on my board.  The CPU I had before is at my system at work and I really dont want to take out that CPU because the system is perfectly tuned for my workstation at work.

I want to buy a i7 6900k.  If the board doesnt have the new bios can the system still post in the bios so I can update the bios so it can be compatible with the new bios?

This new system will be at home so I dont want to bring CPU back and forth between my home and office.
