I have never seen anything like this either. The only thing I can think of (to add to Parsec's advice) is possibly bent pins in the CPU socket or dirt on the CPU contacts. The 64bit instruction set is a physical aspect of the CPU so if it's pins are obstructed somehow that could possibly cause the symptoms you mentioned.

The BIOS version is a solid starting point as Parsec noted.

I've never heard of a board freezing due to a 64 or 32 bit version of an OS.

Linux is not listed as a supported OS, but you said this also happens with Windows 10 64 bit?

What UEFI/BIOS version do you have in your board? The i3-6100 requires at least version 1.20. The UEFI version is on a sticker on the UEFI chip, in the lower right corner of the board.

When does the freezing occur? During the OS installation?

What media are you using for installing the OS? USB flash drive, or disk?

Which slots are you using for your memory? For two DIMMs like yours, you should use the A2 and B2 slots. Is your memory at its stock speed?

Are you using all default settings in the UEFI? If not, what UEFI options have you changed?

hi, i resently adquired a new system:
mainboard: ASRock B150M PRO4S with a CPU i3-6100 (2x 3,7 GHz) and 2x4GB RAM (fury hyperx HX421C14FBK2/8). this combo should support a 64bit linux or windows operating system, right?
cause i cant install any 64bit OS on it, it freezes. a 32 system (windows 10) on the other hand works fine.
but i need a 64 bit system.
what can i do?

or should i better ask: does this mean the mainboard isnt working propperly? or the CPU?
