I'm quite embarrassed but it turned out to be an issue with my internet service, not my mobo.

It WAS a mobo problem when I first set up the new comp, but it was fixed once I installed the proper Broadcomm drivers. Just bad luck that my internet line had problems at the exact same time. Everything seems to be fine now, thanks. And thanks for the quick response!

Meaning poor quality cables from the router to the particular PC? Try exchanging the network cable and see if that fixes the issue. Or for that matter, try the same cable connected to the same port on another device if available.

Do other devices on your (wired) network have the same issue, or is it just the single PC?

To isolate any possible Windows incompatibility, also test under an Ubuntu Live CD, for example.

It could also be the switch itself? Maybe not the entire switch but a particular port perhaps, so switch that around as well if possible. Author: White_Worm
Subject: 3077
Posted: 22 Jul 2016 at 12:53am

Hi there, I'm having a problem with my new Z77 Extreme mobo. Here's the background info:

I had a Gigabyte Z77 mobo for about 3 years until it's BIOS became corrupted. So I bought the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 to replace it. I swapped out everything and the system is running fine for the most part. I was using Windows 7 pro for the previous build, but now I've changed over to Windows 10, clean install. But I seem to be having a problem with the LAN port and internet speed on this new board.

My ISP speed is 150Mbps. At speedtest.net I usually show around 120Mbps, but on this new board I'm only getting around 24Mbps. I've installed all the software on the ASRock download page for Windows 10 and I've installed new Broadcomm drivers directly from the Broadcomm site. The speed indicator light on the LAN port shows green (gigabit) and my computer is connected to a 24-port switch. I've reset the router, modem, and switch twice.

I also have the XFast LAN program installed (Win 10). Occasionally I can get 100+Mbps on speedtest, but usually its around 20-25. If I use the "calibrate line" function in XFast LAN I can get 100+Mbps for the next speed test, then it goes back to 20. I've tried uninstalling XFast thinking that was the problem, but it didn't give any positive results.

Can someone suggest something else I could do to try and fix this? I use this computer as my home office computer and my download speeds really help with my work.

Thanks
