We should be able to get this fixed up for you easily.

In the UEFI, Chipset Configuration screen, find the Onboard HD Audio option. It should be set to Auto now. Set it to Enabled instead of Auto. Save and Exit the UEFI, and you're done.

Your analysis of the situation is exactly correct. But it can be modified to work as you desire.

The description of the settings and operation of this option from your board's manual:

Enable/disable onboard HD audio. Set to Auto to enable onboard HD audio and

automatically disable it when a sound card is installed.
