To clear and reset the system parameters to default setup, please turn off the computer and unplugthe power cord from the power supply. After waiting for 15 seconds, use ajumper cap to short pin2 and pin3 on CLRCMOS1 for 5 seconds. However, please do not clear the CMOS right after you update the BIOS. If you needto clear the CMOS when you just inish updating the BIOS, you must bootup the system irst, and then shut it down before you do the clear-CMOS action. Please be noted that the password, date, time, user default proile, 1394GUID and MAC address will be cleared only if the CMOS battery is removed.

Maybe try unplugging the PC from all peripherals and power, disconnect HDDs and other components from the board (not CPU or RAM), remove the battery then hit the power button for 15 seconds. Once you have done this leave the battery out with the system dismantled over night. If that does not clear the password nothing will. You can also try and boot into the bios with the HDDs disconnected.

H61m-HVS Bios/Uefi Password : To clear CMOS via battery removal...

    Author: Xaltar
Subject: 361
Posted: 07 Jul 2015 at 9:28pm

To clear CMOS via battery removal you need to have the PC disconnected from the power cord. All you need to do is unplug the PC, pull the battery out then push the power button to discharge any residual charge in the motherboard/power supply capacitors. Then once you have done this you can replace the battery and power up the PC. You will know if it worked if your date and time are reset.

Clearing CMOS via the jumpers should also clear passwords so if that didn't work then you may not have bridged the pins correctly. The battery method should clear any and all saved data in the bios including date and time.

No password should remain after a proper CMOS clear as the only information that is permanently written to the BIOS ROM is the BIOS itself. In order to add information it needs to be completely re flashed and no BIOS does this for passwords.

Good luck and let us know what happens. If for some unknown reason your password does not reset (which is supposed to be impossible) then you can contact Asrock tech support and request they send you a new BIOS chip which you can swap out for your current one.

It was only temporary need, just like password, I've forgotten it, and now after few years i need to use my bios and i can't access to it. I've tried all my old passwords without success.

1) I've put off the CMOS battery to reset it for 4 hours at least, but it didn't help me at all. It reset my bios, indeed but password is still on.

2) I've tried also to use jumpers to clear CMOS, but thing's the same as above.

3) Updating UEFI/ BIOS also won't help me, because i need a password to do it as well.

I've checked many other ways to clear/ recover my old password but none help me. I bought my PC few years ago with motherboard of course, but as you might suppose all boxes manuals and everything are gone. Prolly thrashed during all those years.

So here's my question: is there any other way to reset/ recover my password to get access to bootloader settings? I'd like to install new Windows but i'm unable to do so without BIOS.

EDIT: Motherboard is H61M-HVS :)

Edited by Alkhadias - 07 Jul 2015 at 8:54pm
