It didn't recognise the Windows 10 USB installation stick when i had it plugged into the USB3 slots. You are correct about the cd working in Windows, i installed all the drivers from the cd after i installed Windows 10 but i think there was an option to put in the driver cd from the UEFI screen which seemed a good idea to me because the machine wasn't recognising the Windows 10 USB stick. I have never used a UEFI board before. So anyway all is well, thanks a million!!!
Author: PadraicM
Subject: 3684
Posted: 29 Oct 2016 at 9:31pm

Hello, thanks for your help, i really appreciate it. The good news is that i discovered that i have a USB2 head on the motherboard so i changed the Windows 10 USB stick to that and i can install Windows 10 through that, i have tried and it does start to install. I quit the installation because i wanted to do some partition work on the hard drive first. It failed to recognise the Windows 10 USB stick when i plugged it into a USB3 slot. So i think the patch would be necessary if i didn't have a USB2 slot. I am using an old XP pc case and it has two USB2 slots on the front panel. Thank heavens for old technology!!! In order to make that "patch" i would need a Windows 7 pc which i don't have! What is bugging me is that the cd that came in the box was rejected! I don't know if it will install after i install Windows 10 this evening, i will let you know. Again thanks a million for your help.
But you still need to patch the OS install media first and get your OS loaded/installed.

You need to follow the links directions to use that patch to create your USB installation media. It patches it so that the usb works, as w/o it there are no usb drivers loaded.
On the MB it says Z170 pro4 and on the BIOS it says P 3.00. No i didn't patch the ISO because i am not really sure how to make the ISO and patch it, i have already downloaded all the drivers from the MB support page. I also just downloaded the Windows 10 ISO file from Microsoft but it is only about 3 GB compared to over 6GB on the USB stick. Just as a matter of interest is the cd the correct one?
