No mobo manufacturer would be able to test out every brand and/or iteration of ram.
The reverse is also true.
During the years I have been building and ocing comps, I have run across very few instances of ram/mobo incompatibility. Note that was very few, not non-existent.
You do your best to research pre-purchase, but.....unless you want to stick strictly to QVL lists there is a certain amount of "chance" involved Yin Yang

You last question is a simple question about a highly complex situation. Since I am not a mother board engineer, electrical engineer, nor a PC memory design engineer, and don't know what memory chip manufactures will create in the future, I cannot begin to answer that question.

This is G.SKILLs QVL listing for the memory you listed, G.SKILL F4-3200C15D-16GTZ:

Above we see eight Z170 mother boards that G.SKILL has validated for use with the F4-3200C15D-16GTZ memory.

Note that one major mother board manufacture's Z170 products are completely missing, as well as a couple less well known brands.

Of course, G.SKILL's list may not be completely inclusive, but you'd need to ask them about that.

ASRock has 24 different Z170 board models. Did G.SKILL test them all?

There's a lesson to be learned from G.SKILL's QVL list. All mother boards are not created equal. If you believe or expect a $100 Z170 board will be identical to a $300 Z170 board regarding memory over clocking potential, then I wish you luck!

Don't forget the Skylake memory controller is part of the CPU, not on the board. Are you familiar with the term, Silicon Lottery?

G.SKILL has 430 models of DDR4 memory. Does anyone test them all?

There are 15 DDR4 16GB DIMM memory models included in the Z170 Extreme4's Memory Support List. Some of those kits are 32GB and 64GB.

I could explain again about the relationship between memory capacity and over clocking potential, but you ignored it, so why bother again?

The Z170 Extreme4's Memory Support List includes the very similar F4-3200C16D-16GTZ model.

The lists look old, there's barely any 16gb and zero 32gb.
It seems all the asrock boards have the same list.

The ram i want to use is.

Ram normally doesn't matter but for overwatch low settings pushing to 300 stable fps it does, the CPU and GPU are sub 100% utilized, the ram becomes the bottleneck.


I assume your question is what is the DDR4 memory over clock limit for the Z170 Extreme4 board?

Don't forget that any memory speed above the Intel specification for Skylake processors, which is 2133, is an over clock of the memory.

Between the time Z170 boards were released, and now, over one year, the maximum memory OC speeds has evolved with new models of memory.

My suggestion to you is to check the Memory Support List for this board. Sorry for the text link, the forum link tool has problems with some URLs:

NOTE: It is very important that you carefully study the model number, speed of the memory, and capacity/amount of memory you are considering using. In general, as the memory OC speed increases, there are more restrictions on the amount of memory that can be used. At very high memory over clocks, you can only use one or two DIMMs maximum. That also depends upon the model of memory.

If the memory model you want to use is not included in the Memory Support List, it is essential that you verify compatibility of that memory and your board, with the memory manufacture.
