    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forum.asrock.com/member_profile.asp?PF=2588">jbkeh</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 3940<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 06 Dec 2016 at 1:02am<br /><br />As a general "rule-of-thumb', most capricious random malfunctions are caused by thermal or power (mainly lack thereof) problems.<br><br>Without a full complete description of your system it is not possible to be more definite, but I would suggest that you consider whether your PSU is up to the demands placed on it. <br><br>Try stripping&nbsp; <u>everything</u> possible from your system to reduce the power load and see if that resolves the symptoms. <br>]]>

Any ideas on what would suddenly cause that? No sound in both linux and Windows 10 64-bit. Used the RealTek drivers as well as the MS HDA drivers.<div><br></div><div>The device is definitely detected, but no audio coming from the back jacks or the front jacks. FML.</div>]]>

You have saved pages of back and forth with this one paragraph&nbsp;<img src="https://forum.asrock.com/smileys/smiley20.gif" border="0" alt="Thumbs Up" title="Thumbs Up" /></div><div><br></div><div>This is clearly not the OS as you have tried both linux and windows with the same issue repeating, that combined with a hang on BIOS exit is irrefutable. The problem is definitely hardware or firmware related (UEFI).</div><div><br></div><div>If you have not already, try the following:</div><div><br></div><div>Disconnect everything from the board (especially drives) with the exception of CPU, 1 stick of RAM and power. Make sure all you have connected to your IO panel is mouse and keyboard and connect your monitor to the motherboard output. I have seen issues like this be caused by a flash drive or other USB device being connected during post. Then in this configuration see if your problem occurs exiting the UEFI.</div><div><br></div><div>Keep us posted.</div>]]>

I ran Prime95 burn-in and CPU temps never go above 80C. No beep codes.<div><br></div><div>The restart issue seems to be OS-independent at this point. I have cleared the CMOS (pulled the power cord, wait 15seconds, used the CLRCMOS1 jumper for 5 seconds, and powered the computer back on. I then enter the BIOS and Load UEFI defaults and then Save and Exit. After that the computer will hang (I have waited over 10 minutes for the reboot) and then I have to power it down via the power switch (Hold for 4 seconds).</div><div><br></div><div>Rebooting using Linux or Win10 causes a hang. If it has been jostled it could have unsettled the CPU slightly causing an intermittent fault. It may be worth removing, cleaning and reseating your CPU.</div><div>The power supply could also be responsible, if the CPU power (12v 4 or 8 pin) is a little on the low side it could cause the beep code too.&nbsp;</div><div>Another possibility is the VRMs are getting hot due to bad air flow but given this issue arose recently the only way I could see this being the case is excessive dust buildup inside your system. When the system first turns on the power briefly spikes in order to wake all the components, this is normal and is facilitated by the capacitors on the board, if the VRMs are not getting enough cooling this spike may be causing overheating and subsequent voltage discrepancies until power levels return to normal. As I said, the VRMs is reaching a little but possible. It is far more likely the power supply or CPU.&nbsp;</div>]]>

I looked in the manual and there's nothing about beep codes like the old manuals used to have for troubleshooting. The system seems to work fine but I just wanted to check if there is something I should be worried about</div><div><br></div><div>2) Hang on reboot - There seems to be some problem with the board where it will hang with a black screen on reboot. I have experienced this when just exiting the BIOS and it does the reboot and when I restart Windows. It will shutdown from Windows fine, but reboot/restart causes it to hang with a black screen and never complete the reboot. I'm running 2.00 bios and have cleared the bios via jumper and loaded the UEFI defaults but can't seem to resolve the issue.</div><div><br></div><div>Any ideas?</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks in advance.</div>]]>
