I lost my not-quite-finished response by stopping for dinner before it was charcoal... oops. 

I didn't find the Taichi on Corsair's list either, when I looked at  http://www.corsair.com/en/memoryfinder prior to buying.
However, now I find that it IS on this (new?) site:  http://www.corsair.com/en-us/memoryfinder
So I'll get a listed 2133MHz stick, and keep it on-hand.

Maybe the 4GB or 8GB Corsair value RAM (maybe 8 so I can be semi-functional while exploring/refining the full 128gb kit):

I've sent for

Prior to purchasing the 128gb kit, I did chat with a Corsair rep...unfortunately, was cut off before saving it - and it was not emailed to me. The gist was that I was convinced I should get a 128gb kit from the outset, particularly because of the high density and frequencies, with expectation that a 3000MHz kit should function with both the i7-6800k and Taichi motherboard at the default 2133MHz, but no promises for reaching the rated frequency for an unlisted kit.

I don't see the Taichi listed on the Corsair QVL for your RAM but that could just be because it is newer than their list. 

I would contact Corsair customer support and inquire about compatibility.

You can also try ASRock Tech Support though Corsair will more likely be able to tell you about compatibility.

If the RAM is compatible with the Taichi then yes, it should simply default to DDR4 2133 untill XMP is set. You could try a single cheap DDR4 2133 module that is on the ASRock Taichi QVL list in the interim, if it works then you know where the problem lies and can update the BIOS and see if that resolves the issue.

I also have an ASRock X99 Taichi motherboard, with an i7-6800k CPU.
Do I need to get a stick or two of 2133 or 2400 MHz memory to be able to POST? 

I'm currently at a standstill with my first build, stuck at Debug code 99. (http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4217&KW=taichi&PID=21986&title=asrock-taichi-debug99-never-posted-n00born-build#21986)

I'll be running fluid sims, and need a lot of ram. I was trying to be conservative, take forum advice, and get matched sticks for the full memory capacity of this motherboard and CPU from the outset.  I chose Corsair Vengeance, CMK128GX4M8B3000C16.  

It was my (possibly skewed) understanding that Corsair Vengeance and Dominator memory at the same rated frequency is the same - with different heat sink styles. Corsair Dominator CMD16GX4M4B3000C15 is on the Taichi QVL list, so I (perhaps prematurely) concluded that the Vengeance 3000Mhz should work. Maybe the QVL list is supposed to be taken more literally? 

Shouldn't the 3000Mhz memory be able to boot and function at the default frequency, 2133MHz? Is this a reasonable expectation? Is it likely that I will be able to utilize this 128gb Corsair memory kit?

RAM is a very subjective topic. I have always favored Corsair for example. I use Corsair because it has never given me any issues over the 15 or so years I have been using them. While that has been my experience with them, there are others who likely have had issues. 

Corsair CMK32GX4M4A2800C16 (4x8gb) DDR4 2800
Gskill F4-2800C16Q-32GRR (4x8gb) DDR4 2800 (great reviews)

Both these kits are listed on the Taichi's memory support list.

Hi people

Could I please pick your very knowledgeable brains for some advice on the very best memory to use.......It's a minefield for me.

Asrock x99 Motherboard
Core i7 6850K CPU

Looking for a quad kit of 32GB - cost is not a concern (got to be 4x8GB, may upgrade to 64GB later)

System will be used for Photo editing (very large files - multi row, multi exposure panorama's) and some 4K Video editing too.  Will also be playing a few tripple A games as well
