Yea, finally Tongue So long as the M.2 drive is attached to a 3rd party PCIe card and inserted into a PCIe slot.



Assuming the ASMedia ASM1061 does in fact work for your BD/DVD?CD. Many do not yet I have a hunch it is related to the driver as there are PCIe cards based on the ASM1061 controller that DO work with them.

Thank you very much for your answers, unfortunately for me it is not clear:
if you use RAID with six hdu , one slot PCIe x4 Ultra M.2 NVMe SSD, on Asmedia ASM1061 a SATA port for DVD / Blu-ray is available? (all port sata in asm1061 is available?)

For the PCI espress 3.0 x16 slots I understand that it works so on the 
Z270 Taichi and Professional Game i7:
(PCIe slot 3 is available in x4 mode for connector Ultra M2_3 PCIe NVMe 32 Gb/s)

x8.x4.x8.x0
x8.x4.x4.x4

As shown above, and in the specifications in the manual and on your board's information page at ASRock's website, you cannot use all six Intel SATA ports and the M.2 slots at the same time.

No such table exists showing all the possible connection combinations.

The Z270 chipset in the Taichi board works the same way as the Z170 chipset does with the M.2 slots and the Intel SATA ports. The M.2 slots and the SATA ports share resources. One M.2 slot shares resources with two SATA ports. You can use both SATA ports or the M.2 slot, of a shared set.

Use an M.2 slot, you lose two SATA ports. The SATA port numbers and M.2 slot number that are shared are in the specs wardog included above. All Z270 boards are like this, depending upon how many M.2 slots they have.

In short, to have a RAID6 array span all the Intel SATA ports and use an M.2 "stick as your boot drive, the M.2 stick will HAVE to be mounted to an M.2 PCIe adapted card and used in an available x8(?4?) PCIE slot.

Again, see my post above this one. The SATA board mounted M.2 combinations/exceptions are laid out there.

These have no relation to PCIe M.2 adapter card. The PCIe slots and the motherboard mounted Ultra M.2 slots have no relation to each other as far as available lanes.

As parsec said in his post above this, if you are to use the six Intel SATA ports you will need to mount the M.2 "stick to a PCIe base adapter card and plug it into a PCIe slot. Doing so will leave your graphics card running at x8, not x16

The only way you can use all of the Intel SATA ports and use an M.2 NVMe SSD as the OS/boot drive, is to use an M.2 to PCIe adapter card for the M.2 NVMe SSD.

The adapter card is connected to one of the PCIe x16 slots, and uses the PCIe 3.0 lanes provided by the CPU.

But that will leave 8 PCIe 3.0 lanes for a video card. That will not reduce performance by a significant amount, but if you must have your video card using 16 PCIe lanes, then nothing else you can do.

If M2_3 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_3 will be disabled.


Looking at the above, a RAID5 arrary across all the Intel ports will not leave lanes left for _any_ M.2 slots/drives.



As far as the 4 sata ports provided by the ASMedia controller, you can scratch these as they have nothing to do with available lanes that the M.2 slots use.

the Z270 motherboard Taichi if I use the 6 SATA ports with six disks in raid 5 (Intel RST) and an SSD SM961 NVMe of PCIex4 I should be able to boot?
