Author: jaydub
Subject: 4739
Posted: 01 Apr 2017 at 2:44am

I have a Z270 Extreme4 board. I tried installing a Vantec firewire expansion card into PCIE4, which is a 16x slot. However, BIOS doesn't recognize it as inserted. If I install the card into any of the 1x slots, BIOS does recognize it. Is there something special I need to do to get a 16x slot to recognize a 1x non-graphics card? In BIOS, the PCIE slots are all set to "Auto".

Update:
I'm being told by ASRock tech guy Eric that 16x slots can only be used by graphics cards. How is that possible? So if I choose only one graphics card, then I only have three slots for various expansion cards? That can't be.

Edited by jaydub - 01 Apr 2017 at 8:12am
