Some ports I would plug this into and get USB 3.0 speed every time. Other ports, it would always come up as USB 2.0. This was straight after a clean install of Windows 10.

I then realised if I pushed the drive in a bit quicker it would pick up as USB 3.0 on some of the ports. It was like it reads the USB 2.0 pins and once registers those, it just doesn't worry about trying USB 3.0.

Strangely, I had a separate USB 3.0 cable plugging into an external had drive - this one almost always seemed to register as USB 3.0, no matter what port. Maybe just because the HDD was turned on after plugging the cable in?

Some of the ports always work properly as USB 3.0, so I just use those ones for the devices I need USB 3.0 speeds.
