Symptoms like that are usually due to a bad IMC like I said. There is a very small chance it could be damage to the board's power circuits for the RAM, a small chance the PSU could have a bad 3.3v rail and a small chance the RAM itself could be damaged.

The best case scenario would be the PSU being bad but honestly, my money is on either the CPU or the board, possibly both Unhappy

That is certainly possible. It sounds like the IMC (internal memory controller) on the CPU is damaged. If it was just the 1 slot not working then it could be the board but if you can't get 2 sticks to work together regardless of configuration then the CPU IMC is most likely damaged. 

Check the CPU physically as well as the pins in the socket, if something got too hot it could have caused residue that is now blocking connection (a burned pin or contact pad). If there is such damage you might be lucky and be able to clean the charred material off the effected area and restore contact. 

If that does not work then your choices are not great:

1. Replace the CPU and board. I would highly recommend both be replaced because if the CPU is damaged it is extremely likely the board also got damaged.

2. Pick up a single 16gb stick of RAM and use the system until it dies completely. It may last for years or it could die in days, sadly there is no way to tell.


Another thing you can try is a new/spare PSU. If the PSU is damaged and providing insufficient power to the RAM it could maybe cause your issue. It's a long shot but worth a try.

I have tried to plug in only one stick to A1 and the PC won't boot. If I just plug in one stick to B1, it works. I have checked using both stick so my conclusion is the slot is broken. Several weeks ago, I realized there were an electricity problem in my building and after that my PC couldn't bootup although it was working again. Is the A1 slot physically broken or simply not working when you install a RAM module in it?

Have you tried installing a single stick of RAM and tried all slots? 

If you have determined that all the other slots are working (except A1) then I would recommend checking your CPU and socket for debris, bent pins or thermal compound. If that checks out and you still have a problem post back.

Hello,

I use AsRock X99 WS-E/10G.

I noticed that on of the RAM slot is broken. Below is the schema that I capture from the user manual.

The slot that is broken is A1. So, I can not install the RAM in pair in A1 and B1 slot.

After I try a lot of combination, My 2 RAM can not be detected together at all. I try put it in B1 and C1, and C1 and D1. The OS can not detect one of them.

Now, I give up and put it in C1 and D1 although the OS can only detect memory in D1. The RAM I installed in C1 can not be detected at all. The OS listed it as empty.

My question is, how can I install 2 RAM with this condition? Anyone has similar experience?
