Author: mrzenwiz
Subject: 677
Posted: 20 Aug 2015 at 2:49am

I just purchased a Z97 Pro4 m/b for my system, using an Intel i7 4790. I run Xubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Linux and use a 2.1 stereo set of Creative Labs speakers, plugged into the center feed (front line out) of the sound connectors on the back of the m/b.

When I booted this up for the first time, the only sound I got when attempting to play an mp3 was a repeating single frame, like a stuck record, but with a static overcast. It sounds roughly like a bong-bong-bong... in a cloud of static that builds up and lingers. When I quit the player, the repeating sound stops, but the static fades away over a few seconds.

If I use the HD digital sound, which comes out through my DVI monitor speakers (or headphone jack), it's fine. The problem is that if I want to play music in the background, when the screensaver turns off the monitor, the sound goes away with it, and this really isn't the the right way to do sound.

It sounds like a collision between two or more sound sources battling for supremacy, but I can't find any indications that this is what's happening, nor a setting to adjust this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
