I'm starting to think it might be a loose connection on the port. I used the LAN for about an hour today without a problem, and then it died in the middle of a game for seemingly no reason. Even plugging it in still has 50/50 odds if it'll light up and work. When it doesn't work there are no lights, so a bad connection seems plausible.

First thing I did was update the bios, before I even installed Windows.

The troubleshooter uselessly tells me a cable is unplugged, but my cables are fully functional. The driver in device manager looks normal and I've already installed that driver from different sources and release dates over 20 times.

Maybe the board is just defective, I'll have to take it up with Newegg. I'm really not looking forward to having to reinstall a new mobo and go without a computer for a few weeks, so I may just live with a dinky adapter. The latest AMD chipset drivers can be found on this page, scroll down to the AMD Chipset, AHCI, USB 3.0 and RAID Drivers link. The advanced options in the Properties may also have troubleshooting options.

If you are absolutely certain that the Internet cable and router are working correctly, and you cannot get a consistent connection after running the troubleshooting in Windows and the Realtek driver Properties, then it seems that the network chip or board is defective. Return the board to your retailer if possible, or begin the RMA process with ASRock.

An Internet connection should just simply work from the start. Most of the time we don't even need to run the Windows Internet connection option. The networking works as soon as Windows is installed.
