Yes, things have changed since ten years ago, quite a bit. Nothing is wrong given your post, but not really detailed.

Your board's information and download page, in case you have not used it. The full user manual can be downloaded from this page, as well as all the drivers, etc:

First, what CPU are you using? There has been some confusion regarding which processors may be used in Intel 300 series chipset boards, like your Z370.

Your board is a dual UEFI/BIOS chip board, one main and one backup UEFI chip. The red A1 LED simply indicates which UEFI chip is in use. You are on the main UEFI chip, that is normal, the red LED means nothing else.

The blue LEDs are just the board's RGB LEDs, a "must have" for current boards.   They serve no purpose besides cosmetic.

A list of your basic hardware would be helpful, full model number of the memory and PSU.

Do you have both the 24 pin ATX and 4/8 pin CPU power cables connected to the board from your PSU? They both must be connected or the board and CPU will not operate.

Do you have a POST beep speaker connected to the board? They are no longer built into the board.

Double check that the memory, in slots A2 and B2 (as you said) are fully seated in the DIMM slots. The single latch DIMM slots are difficult for some people to deal with. The vast majority of DDR4 memory will work with Intel processors (memory controller is part of the CPU) but it would be nice to check the model please.

The Intel iGPU should work over any of the IO panel outputs. Is your monitor set to auto select the input being used? If you are using a TV for a monitor, let us know.

Did you examine the processor socket for any bent pins while installing the CPU?

Any drives connected to the board yet? What are your plans for the OS installation?
