to be honest the credit should go to a guy nicknamed chew

it was him that discovered traces of later bios were remaining on backflashing
and that dos flash cleared it correctly

anyways
good to know it worked for you

(and people wondered why i said i wasnt going to be an early tester for this new agesa)

All seems good to go! I cannot understand why a simple downgrade to an earlier UEFI version didn't do the trick but had to do it through DOS... it all seems to be up and running fine now. My GPU Score on Firestrike is consistently hitting 4%-5% lower now though, but I'm sure I can't pin that on UEFI versions, and is still low enough to be considered margin of error.

that is something I have not tried, yes! Do you have a guide or point me in the right direction to the steps to perform that BIOS flash through DOS? It's been ages since I last used anything other than the BIOS/UEFI flashing tool.

i helped a guy the other day with similar issue

he tried to roll back to earlier bios but the lack of overclocking remained

(we must assume with a high level of certainty that traces of the later bios remain)

the solution was to use an earlier bios
BUT !
to load the earlier bios in DOS MODE as this seems to erase the bios files and eprom first and then write a whole new bios, you can then instant flash your choice of later bios (eg the one you was happy with)

Hi everyone,

well, it happened once again. I updated something as critical as UEFI without going through the web to see if it had any issues.

I'm having an issue that I don't believe I've been able to see anyone else having though. In addition with initially having issues with my RAM booting up at XMP (it did, eventually), not being able to overclock, my system is also under performing compared to before.

Specs:
R5 1600X
2x16 GB GSkill Trident Z 3200Mhz 14-14-14
Asrock AB350m Pro4
RX 570

I made several changes as of late, benchmarking and stress testing after every one. Changed PSU, all well, changed Liquid Cooler, performing as usual. But last thing I got both mixed: I updated video drivers to the latest Adrenalin AMD drivers, and updated to BIOS 4.20 for my AB350M Pro4.

As usual, benchmarked, and found scores to be much lower than usual, best examples are Firestrike losing almost 1000 points (indication that it's CPU related is that the CPU Score fell 9-14% from previous runs), and RealBench came from 130k to 112k in average.

Tried reinstalling previous AMD drivers, rolling back to UEFI 3.30 and even clean windows install, and still to no avail. What I did notice is that the frequency under the Windows Task Manager varies and jumps all over the place, when before, it stuck at whatever the BIOS was set to (stock 3.6GHz), when using the Ryzen Balanced Power Plan. Using the Default balanced Plan behaved this same way.

Could it be that this update also broke "compatibility" with the Ryzen Balanced Power Plan, which is resulting in this performance loss? What I don;t understand is why would the problem persist after rolling back to 3.30...
