I have been able to build easily with Windows 10 Pro latest edition.

I have been trying quite hard for the last few days to build it with Win 7 and cannot get past the load driver screen. At one point I got the load driver page using the Floppy Disc Image and for some reason the driver would not install. Author: ssateneth
Subject: 7195
Posted: 06 Jan 2018 at 4:38pm

I'm hoping to get some help here. I'm pulling my hair out over this issue.

I cannot get Win7 to install onto a hard drive in EFI mode. I get this error.

I can install Win7 in MBR mode just fine (disable secure boot, enable CSM -> legacy only, ensure install media is also formatted MBR -> get to install screen and go from there).

I want to do it in EFI mode instead though. I've used the X399 USB patcher to no avail, same issue. I know the USB install media I have can install EFI mode fine because I've installed Win7 with it to an Intel Z77 motherboard (Note: While I can install it in EFI mode, I must have motherboard settings set to UEFI only, secure boot off, and windows 8 features turned off). Only then will it pick up the USB fine and install away. I confirmed it installed in EFI mode by opening diskmgmt.msc and verifying the volume has an EFI partition and is formatted GPT style.

Here's what I've done so far

Disable Secure boot.

Enable CSM and do varyign combinations of Legacy only and UEFI only

Disable CSM

Disable IOMMU

Changed PCI-E gen speed from auto to gen2

I've also messed with the USB stick itself:

I tried making bootable install media with rufus, formatting as GPT FAT32 and GPT NTFS to no avail. I think I tried MBR FAT32 and MBR NTFS but those wouldn't work anyways due to the need for EFI booting to be on GPT formatted media.

I've also used a hard drive as installation media to bypass USB driver issue (connect SSD to a USB adapter -> use rufus to make install media onto external hard drive, pointing to win7 iso file to make bootable disk. I've tries MBR and GPT for UEFI options, both work in Z77 intel machine but not on AMD x399 machine) and no beans with that.

Anyone have any idea? Step by step fix?
