Author: drobinson
Subject: 790
Posted: 08 Sep 2015 at 1:35am

Have 960GM/U3S3 FX motherboard. Booted into Windows with a Kingston SSD for a year--no problems. Swapped out for a Samsung 840EVO (250GB) beginning of year. Great for about 6 months and then started getting a Chkdsk once a week or so. Otherwise, ran fine. Chkdsks increased in frequency. Tried a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). Didn't help. In fact, won't boot now!

Really troubling: Tried to boot from Windows 7 disk to repair/reinstall ... and it wouldn't get to the first menu. Just wound up with mouse pointer on a black screen.

Went back to Kingston. Runs slowly. File copies take ten minutes if they work at all!

Possible issue: PSU is old and fan a bit loud but never cuts power.
