Author: cristy6100
Subject: 8254
Posted: 01 Apr 2018 at 9:42pm

Well it seems the only affected jack is the front speakers one, the green one and only the left channel, plugging the jack in the black or orange one (rear speakers center/sub) no pop or nose is occuring upon reboot, the front panel headphones one is the same, no noise or pop on it when rebooting or powering on the system, so it seems to be a hardware fault on the motherboard sound card or maybe a firmware bug that is causing this pop to occur upon power on/reboot but it seems strange that it occurs only on the front speakers green jack..
Any thoughts? Should I send the board in warranty?

I need to mention this pop is occurring only when the amplification is equivalent to about 1000-1200W RMS, so I am expecting 99% of people wont encounter it due to not having powerful enough amplifier to boost the signal to these levels where the pop is audible.

Messuring the line-out with an osciloscope would reveal the current inrush on the left channel

Small update, changed every bios settings relevant to audio to no avail, changed cable and messured the voltages going in the amplifier on the left channel, there seems to be a voltage spike of about 0.7-1.4V for about 1 sec. on the left channel when powering up/restarting the PC. This voltage is generated by the motherboard's soundcard circuitry as I mentioned only on the left channel and only on the line out jack, all other jack behave normally, if lowering the input to about -14dB from the amplifier the pop is not audiable, but the same voltage still enters the amplifier input stage and OP-AMP's

Edited by cristy6100 - 02 Apr 2018 at 12:11am

If it was an equipment fail the pop should not move from the left to the right speakers when reversing the cable that comes from the motherboard, the strange thing is that its on the left channel and only on the line out, the headphones jack works with no problems.

Nice sub and speakers setup, maybe the Gaming X ATX model dosent suffer from this issue, I will test now the other jack and report back

This doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, but do read for reviews and make sure it actually does something and isn't just a heavy hunk of metal snakeoil.

Try both putting all the equipment on the same power bank, then try on different isolated power banks, and maybe it will solve the issue. For example triplite isobar powerstrips have isolated power banks.

If that doesn't solve your problem, i'd next try a UPS or switch from analog to s/pdif / optical.

that being said, unless your equipment sucks, I don't think you are specifically damaging it even if it does get pops.

but your receiver is at fault here

edit:
dont know if my speakers qualify as decent
but i use yamaha htr 4069
with this 5.0 speakers:

Skytronic 5.0 Home Teather
Power max.: 3x 50W + 2x 180W, equivalent to 1150W
Power rms: 335W
Woofers: 10/16 cm

and this subwofer:

auna linie-300-sw
Power max.: 300W
Power rms: 150W
Woofer: 25 cm

no issues here
but with old logitech x530 i was having loud pop when either pc startup or shutdown, obviously it was at fault logitech amplifier, they replaced it later with fixed version year later (z-506 i think)

Edited by kerberos_20 - 01 Apr 2018 at 8:56pm

It scares me every time.
I can't power off the amplifier either every time I power on or reboot the system cause its in another room.

Could you guys with AB350 ITX/X370 ITX confirm if you also get a loud pop on the left channel when reboot/power-on?

I removed the cables, restored bios defaults, this also happend with Bristol Ridge CPU's, it might be a firmware related issue or a more critical hardware design fault. I hope not for the latter... but it seems the channel is not muted when the capacitors charge, this does not happen for the right channel...

Lowering the amplifier volume is not an option, I can't increase and decrease it every time I need more power, this will wear out the pots in no time, these amplifiers are made to run full power and the volume be controlled upstream

I just need someone with some good speakers that could test this, if possible increase the volume gradually and confirm

But the pop beign only on the left channel tells me it might be a firmware confguration bug, when they set the mute/cut-out from the ALC1220 chip until the capacitors charge, they forgot to set it for the left channel also.

EDIT1: I sent a support ticket to ASRock describing this problem, I just wanted to see if others have it on the Fatality X370 ITX/ac or AB350 ITX/ac

Thanks

Edited by cristy6100 - 01 Apr 2018 at 7:36pm
