lil warm, but not bad..  For air cooled id be good with it.  Max is great for normal use...  Thats roughly what I saw with my 120mm water cooler on that proc.

It's the reason I run the enermax now.. 22 deg idle and 50ish max at 3.9ghz and running prime95.. 

On air, its a respectable performance.

Can you download HWMonitor and check what your temp for TDIE is?  There will, of course be 2, and they should be within a degree of eachother.

I cannot say what a normal idle temp you should see is.. I'm running a water cooler. But I have found that with bios 2.0.. its reading TCTL for temps, not TDIE.  TDIE is accurate for actual core temps.

If the air cooler is designed for the TR IHS, I'd expect to see your temps at idle maybe 10-15 C above ambient..

Thank you for the replies. Curious as to why the fans don't run faster when in UEFI setup if the CPU is truly running at full speed.

In A-Tuning app in Win10, it seems to show CPU around 54 degrees when idling. Is that ok? Seems a little high. Running the Noctua U14S with included thermal compound.

Threadripper has an added 27c temperature to tctl so this is normal for the uefi to show. Mine show 71.5c right now in setup.

Never take CPU temps in the UEFI as idle temps, these frequently read high due to the load the UEFI places on the CPU.

If your temps in OS while at idle are good then there is nothing to be concerned about. My X370 Taichi + 1600x sit at about 57c in the UEFI and I am using a 240mm AIO water cooler. Enter OS and the temps sit at 25c idle with an ambient room temp of 22c. I have also pushed this CPU to 4.1ghz at 1.45v and still had idle temps in the low 30s. 

This is not restricted to AMD either, my 7600k system also sits quite a bit hotter in the UEFI than in OS, if memory serves it usually sits at around +/- 48c in the UEFI and 26-28c idle in OS cooled by a Thermaltake Frio OCK air cooler. It isn't a bug or mistake, it has to do with the UEFI loading up one of the cores rather more than you would think for something seemingly as simple as the UEFI environment.

Hi all,

Immediately upon turning my system on and entering the setup on my X399 Taichi, the CPU temp is reporting around 67 degrees C. This seems very high. I applied the thermal compound and am using the Noctua NH-U14S cooler for the 1950X. Can anyone provide some suggestions here? I found these threads but none of them seemed very conclusive aside from a possible 27 degree C offset of sorts.
